    01:45
    Click on that link.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:46
You will need to create an account to use the writing center.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:50
Once you log on, you will be able to book an appointment.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:54
I highly recommend that you plan ahead at least by 24 hours because they are staffed by graduate students who need some advanced planning to be able to meet with students and faculty.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:05
    Here is the information.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:07
    It is updated each semester.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:11
If I go back to the homepage of the library, I have my databases tab which will lead you to our A to Z Database list.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:18
Notice we do have 552 databases available.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:22
That number does fluctuate occasionally as we do link to databases that we subscribe to as well as databases through the Tulsa City County Library.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:33
As you will see right here, we have 39 of those databases and we also have several open access databases.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:40
So you do see a variety of resources listed here.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:44
You can also search by specific name if that is easier for you.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:48
And we also have featured databases to show you some of our most popular the newest database that we have right now is HathiTrust.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:00
If I click on the "H", it takes me to that list and there is the database listed and it does call it new for that.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:06
It does open us up to more than 18 million resources through the humanities and arts and sciences, so it is a great resource to check out if you haven't heard about that yet. Here's our link to Special Collections and it will take you to their website variety of information including contact links.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:28
To get back to the McFarlin Library site, click the McFarlin Library link.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:33
Here we have our WorldCat Discovery.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:36
This is how you're going to search the library for articles and books as well as other materials.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:42
If you have a DOI or digital object identifier, this is going to let you find certain articles that have that identifier.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:51
You only need the 10 and everything to the right of the 10 to search for a DOI.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:56
You do not need the whole hyperlink, and if you want to navigate to the Mabee Legal Information Center or the Law Library then click this link and that will take you to that option.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:07
We have our hours and a rotating banner to show different features throughout the library.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:12
If you would like one-on-one research help you click on this link.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:17
It will bring up a form for you to fill out.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:19
Let us know the nature of the request and what your classification is at the university.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:26
That gives us an idea of the angle that you may need help with.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:32
Once you submit that, we will reach out to you and schedule that meeting and we can do online or in person meetings.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:39
They usually last 30 to 60 minutes depending on the nature of whatever you need and we are very flexible and do what we can to help with your research process.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:50
There are Quick Tip Videos which will help guide you through our library resources.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:56
Our FAQs & Policies is another great area you can scan through or you can search a topic here.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:03
If you don't see the answer to your question, you can email us directly or give us a call.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:10
There's also a link for Special Collections and the Law Library or you can come here and ask the question.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:16
Please make sure you direct it to one of the four areas which would be the Law Library, McFarlin Library Reference Desk which would be for any research questions that you may have, McFarlin Library for Special Collections, and McFarlin for Circulation for books circulation processes if you have a book that's overdue, if you have any questions about the material you may have checked out, that's going to be the correct option for that.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:43
However, we also offer another feature that you'll see here in the top right hand corner that says Chat with Us. If it is green, you click on the button, it will give you a box.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:53
You can fill in your name or leave that blank if you choose and then ask your question.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    05:57
A librarian will then join in the conversation and help you get the answers that you need.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:03
If this button is red, if you click on that, it will take you to our chatbot who will lead you through and help you find the answers to your questions.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:12
If again, there is nothing there to help with what you're looking for, simply fill out that question form that I just showed you on the right hand side and we will respond within 24 hours.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:23
If you're a professor and you would like to invite a librarian into your class to help with advanced research and information literacy skills, we are very happy to do that and just click that link.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:34
It'll give you more information about our program and if you have questions about Interlibrary Loan again, please don't ever pay for an article online.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:43
Please come to us so that we can try to get that for you.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:47
If you have any further questions, please let us know.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:50
There's an ask us button at the top and we'll be happy to talk with you.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    06:54
Hope you have a great day. Bye.

    00:00
Hi, my name is Lisa and today I'm going to show you our new search platform on the McFarlin Library website.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:06
    It's called Discovery.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:09
Here in the middle you'll see a search bar.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:10
It says search the TU Libraries.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:13
You can search by everything, books, articles or media.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:17
    The default is for Everything.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:19
There is an advanced search feature.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:21
If I click on that, it's going to give me some more flexibility to use my boolean operators and search indexed terms or attributes for articles and other materials that you may find in the library catalog.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:35
And then if you need to expand those search terms, you can use And, Or, Not and will be a limiter and things that return will have to be from every box that is filled out or it's going to be an either or situation.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:50
So that will be your expander and not will be a limiter and that will actually exclude certain things from a field.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    00:59
If I go back to the homepage if you want to search the Mabee Legal Information Center or the MLIC library, you will need to click this link to navigate to their page.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:11
They use the platform named Alma and so their search feature will be slightly different than what you see on our page here at McFarlin.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:20
If I want to search our James Joyce collection, I type in the name of the author I'm looking for.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:30
It's going to tell me we have about 24,000 results.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:36
It does say that they have expanded the search to include related terms or I can default back to the original search that I asked for.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:47
Off to the left here you'll see refining options.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:50
I can limit to types of books or peer reviewed.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    01:54
If I'm looking for an article right now I'm searching in all of the University of Tulsa libraries except for the maybe legal information center, or I can choose to look for one specifically, whether that be the University School or HCAR at the Gilcrease Museum, Special Collections, or the McFarlin Library.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:15
If I select one of these libraries, it will automatically remove the option for the peer-reviewed articles because they are subscription based and not technically housed or owned by McFarlin.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:29
If I want to look for articles instead, I can remove that check mark and you notice the peer reviewed option does come back.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:37
If I go down to format, I see a variety of format options that I can choose from.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:43
You may also search by date range and a variety of other resources here.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:49
One of the amazing things about Discovery is that it is part of a single sign on for the University of Tulsa now.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    02:58
So if I go back to the homepage and look in the top right hand corner.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:01
It does say my library account.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:04
Once I click on that, especially if I'm already logged into another platform, it will log me in automatically.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:10
If not, it will prompt you to log in using your single sign on in here you can search the Discovery platform.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:16
You can look for course reserves or click on the link for different resources, which is our A to Z Database list, our research guides to help you with certain subject matter in certain courses and request research appointment with the librarian when, whether in person or virtually if I go back to my search and again I'm going to type in James Joyce, my list of results are back.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:47
If I see a variety of things that I would like to come back to later, I can click the save button here and it will actually add to my saved items.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    03:57
And so now that goes to one and I can tick that as many times as I need to so that when I come back later I don't have to reselect all of the things that I found interesting the first time around.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:08
I can go to my saved items list and now I have it in complete list that I was looking through earlier.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:15
You will also see a variety of other options here in Discovery.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:23
You will be able to do a one click link to interlibrary loan.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:28
If a book is on hold and you recall it, you'll have that ability to do so as well right out of this platform if you can.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:36
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to a librarian and ask us for help.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:42
Or you can go to the ask us link here at the top of the page and you'll see a variety of ways to get a hold of us.
Toggle item between chapter and caption
    04:47
Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great day.
