This video will demonstrate how to create a Basic Page in Drupal.
00:07
Before starting, open the Website Help Hub so that you have access to the training materials.
00:13
First a reminder that all pages created in Drupal must follow our brand and accessibility guidelines.
00:19
You will find those details under Other Resources.
00:25
You will find written instructions for creating a basic under the Create Content tab.
00:34
Login to the CMS and navigate to the Nodes listing in your site folder.
00:41
Select Add New Content
00:44
Choose Basic Page Add the Page Title
00:55
A permalink is created based on the page title.
00:59
You can edit this if needed.
01:05
A basic pages is primarily used to display general information in a readily accessible manner.
01:11
You have one text editing box where you can add content such as text, images, and videos.
01:24
When you create your content, you want to make sure that you use headings so that you can separate the content to make it easily scannable for viewers.
01:35
You need to make sure that you apply the correct style to each heading so that it can be read by a screen reader.
01:42
To add a heading style, select the text Under "normal," choose a heading style.
01:49
This one is H2.
01:53
If you have headings within your page that are the same value, meaning the content within them are of equal importance then they would both be Heading 2.
02:07
If a Heading 2 topic has a subtopic, then that heading would be an H3. With headings you always start with H2 and go in consecutive order for subheadings. H1 is reserved for Page Titles and is built into the CMS styles.
02:23
Your text box has a text-editing toolbar and each of these tools can be used to help create styles and add images and links to your page. When you create a link, you want to make sure that you use descriptive text that lets the user know the page they will be sent to.
02:41
To create a link, select the text, choose the little chain link button,
02:50
and you can paste in the URL to the page.
03:00
When you create a link, you can also add styles to make it look different.
03:07
To add a Green Button style, you would select the text, choose Styles, and choose Green Button.
03:14
To create a Call to Action link,
03:18
you would select the text,
03:24
choose the link button, and paste in the URL.
03:36
While the text is highlighted,
03:40
under Styles, choose Action Link.
03:43
When you add your Page Title, it will create this Permalink which will show you the path to the page.
03:48
If you want to edit the path, you can change it under Page Location.
03:56
And you want to navigate to where you want the page to live.
04:13
and so I'll choose University Communications and Marketing.
04:16
If I open this drop down,
04:21
I can see the other pages within UCM. So if I wanted to put this training page under About then I would select that.
04:31
Another style that you might want to add to your page is the Hero Settings.
04:36
This is the Hero Banner that goes at the top of the page.
04:40
To see the full instructions on how to create your hero you can look at ohio.edu/ucm/web/hero-images for full instructions.
04:58
Under Display Settings, you can choose 2 Columns if you want the left navigation to appear on the page. If you do not want the left navigation to appear, just leave it at 1 column.
05:12
When you're finished with your page, you can save it as a Draft so that you can view it.
05:18
Or you can choose Needs Review is someone else needs to approve it.
05:22
Or choose Publish and Save.
05:27
